Light Painting World Alliance - Light is Paint, Night is Canvas

LPWA was invited to organize Special Event for Garage Museum of Contemporary Art (Moscow), held June 10, as massive light painting activity in celebration of 10th anniversary of Museum.
Founded in 2008 by Dasha Zhukova and Roman Abramovich, Garage is the first philanthropic institution in Russia to create a comprehensive public mandate for contemporary art.
Providing opportunities for dialogue, as well as the production of new work and ideas, the Museum’s extensive program of exhibitions, events, education, research, and publishing reflects current developments in Russian and international culture. Central to these activities is the Museum’s collection, which is the only public archive in the country related to the development of Russian contemporary art from the 1950s through to the present.
Because of such high level of presentation of modern art, Museum choose light painting as most interesting art form, suitable for massive art happening. The idea was to involve visitors and guests of Museum and Gorky Park into very unusual kind of entertainment, making giant light painting image of Museum logo on the square in front of Museum.

We spent 2 weeks for tests and consultations with Museum crew, and finally complete program was approved as a) introduction to public (brief speech about light painting and live demonstration of light painting method), b) happening itself, involving all guests in light painting action, c) execution of Garage logo by LPWA light painters only.

Luckily, we hadn’t rain or windy in the celebration day, and all was went on accordingly to plan. Welcome to see resulting massive light painting image, which was done at 2nd attempt by more than 200 people!
